Dear Mr. Specht,

Stated clearly and unequivocally New Square cannot be allowed to annex more land and the Town of Ramapo must finally begin the process of addressing the hundreds of illegal homes that are destroying the safety, stability, and dignity of our neighborhoods.

This crisis developed under your watch. Your office has long been aware of the discriminatory “mile policy” and the explosion of unsafe, overcrowded housing tied to it. Instead of being contained and addressed, the problem has only grown, now involving hundreds of homes that directly harm your constituents. You have the authority to stop this. The only question is whether you have the desire.

The September 10th hearing at Ramapo Town Hall made the truth impossible to ignore:

• More than 100 residents came to plead with you to reject this annexation.
• Speaker after speaker condemned the discriminatory “mile” policy that already covers an area fifteen times the size of New Square itself.
• Families described the trauma of illegal housing, unsafe overcrowding, and violence connected to New Square owned properties.
• Even those who praised Refuah Health Center made clear that annexation is unnecessary — the Town can approve projects without surrendering land.
• Above all, your constituents made clear they feel abandoned while Ramapo officials enable those who abuse them.

Approving annexation would be a betrayal. It would reward a village leadership that has destabilized neighborhoods, openly discriminated against fellow Jews, and ignored the most basic standards of law and decency. It would signal to every resident that the Town values bloc politics over their safety, rights, and future.

The choice before you is clear:

• Reject New Square’s annexation petition.
• Begin immediate, visible enforcement against illegal and unsafe housing across Ramapo.

Anything less is complicity.

Mr. Specht, you will be remembered either as the leader who enabled discrimination and lawlessness, or as the leader who stood up and said NO MORE. The people who filled that hearing room, the thousands they represent, and the tens of thousands more that will hear about your decision are watching closely.
